James O. Brown was born May 2nd, 1878, and died March 6, 1902. Deceased was a private in Troop F. 15th Cavalry, stationed in the Philippine Islands and there he contracted typhoid fever which resulted in his death. Remains were brought to Blair, and the funeral was from the United Brethren church last Friday after, May 20th, Elder J. L. Keil officiating. After enlisting in the army, young Brown became an active worker in the Y.M.CA. and the friends and relatives are comforted to know the he was doing the good work in that Association when death ended all.

The body of James Brown, a soldier boy, and at the time of his death, a member of the 16th Corps of the U. S. Sharpshooters on duty in the Philippines, arrived here yesterday from the Arlington Cemetery, where he had been kept since last fall, when he was brought from San Pueblo, P. I.

Young Brown was born in this city and, when twenty-five years old, enlisted in Troop F, U. S. Cavalry, in Omaha, September 1891. He was later transferred to the sharpshooter’s branch of the service.

He died of typhoid pneumonia and leaves one brother, two sisters, and his mother, Mrs. Lou Petersen, of this city, and his father, Stephen Brown, of Omaha. Funeral services were held today and interment was in the Blair Cemetery.

Jim Brown died of typhoid fever on March 6th at San Pablo, Laguna, P.I. He was a member of Troop F 15th cavalry and had been in the service but about four months. Jim was a son of Steve Brown, now deceased, and was born and raised to manhood in this county.
