22 Jan., 1891 - The Pilot - Chester C. Davis

DAVIS - At the home of his parents in Blair on Saturday, Jan. 17th, 1891, Chester C., son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. H. Davis, aged 6 years, 4 mos. and 11 days.

Little Chester was taken slightly sick on the evening of Dec. 30, his trouble soon developing into malignant diphtheria, which under skillful medical treatment was apparently overcome in a few days so that ten days before his death, though he did not seem to rally as promptly as he should have done, no special danger was apprehended, the presumption being that the disease was baffled and that his complete recovery was only a question of time. On the morning of the 17th inst., and while parents and physician were in good spirits over his condition, at about 3 o’clock, A.M., he was taken with a sinking spell pronounced by the physician attending as stoppage of the heart’s action, and from which he never recovered, breathing his last about twelve hours later.

Chester was a bright, intelligent little boy, the pet and pride of parents and friends, and the sudden manner of his taking off when apparently about recovered from a dangerous disease makes the bereavement severe for them.

The funeral was held at 10 A.M. on Sunday at the family residence, Rev. J. V. Whiting of the Baptist church officiating.
