A LITTLE GIRL BURNED TO DEATH
(Omaha Bee, Monday 18th)

Saturday afternoon some herd boys built a fire in Harback’s addition, where the city is not very thickly settled. A little girl, aged six years, daughter of Mr. R. Rowley, happened to be playing nearby, and coming up to the spot, she fanned the flames with her dress, which caught fire. Becoming terrified, she started on a run away from her home, and the faster she ran, the more she increased the flames that were burning her. Her mother started in pursuit, and soon overtook her, and put out the fire in her clothing, but not before she had been fearfully burned down her back. She was carried to the house, where everything possible was done to alleviate her sufferings. Notwithstanding all this she died yesterday morning in great agony, her kidneys having been affected by the fire. Her remains were sent to Blair today for interment.

The parents of the little sufferer were formerly residents of Calhoun and her father fireman on the O. & N.W. Railroad. It was to Calhoun the remains were taken for burial Monday, instead of Blair as stated by the Bee.
