September 23, 1897- The Pilot- Henry Jaehke

Henry Jaehke or Dutch Henry as he was known, a half-witted German over 70, returned from the county poor farm a few days ago and begged to do chores for his board at Huns Schwangers, and slept in the barn refusing to sleep in the house. This morning when Mr. Berrier began feeding the horses Henry spoke to him and was alright. In a few minutes he complained of a pain in his side and on the way to the house was taken with vomiting and taking a seat on the porch still refused to go in the house, was carried in and the Dr. sent for. In fifteen minutes he was dead. Died from too much hard drinking. No inquest was necessary. Undertaker Pierce took the body to Blair this afternoon.
