13 Dec., 1897 - The Pilot - Drusie L. McDonald

Drusie L. McDonald, only sister of Mrs. C. E. Miller, died at her sister's home in this city, Saturday morning, December 11, 1897, at the age of 19 years, 4 months and 1 day.

The news of her death spread a gloom over the city when it became known on Saturday. Tuesday evening she attended the Military Band Fair at the opera house and made herself useful there by waiting on one of the tables. It having been known that the dread disease, diabetes, had fastened itself upon her, it was no uncommon remark that evening of how well she looked. On Wednesday she remarked to Mrs. Shields that she never felt better, but it was the sunshine that preceded the storm. On Thursday morning she did not rise and on Thursday evening a doctor was summoned. During the day a letter was received from Miss Imo Monroe and read to her. She seemed indifferent to its contents and was no doubt partially unconscious. On Friday she became unconscious and did not again rally. Her breathing became difficult until midnight when it became easier and continued to shorten until death came at 2:00. The funeral was held yesterday at the M. E. church, the sermon being preached by her pastor, Mr. Barton. As pallbearers her classmates, Messrs. Ray Lippincott, Sherry Moore, Pearl Edwards, Brian Fletcher, Ted Williams and Wm. Haller were chosen. In school Miss Drusie was passed from room to room. Her teachers as well as all others loved her. Her work was always well done, not from a selfish desire to exceed others but from an innate love of excellence. She was a graduate of the Blair High School in the class of 1896.

Mr. and Mrs. Miller desire to extend to their many friends their gratefulness for the manifold acts of kindness shown them during the brief Illness of their sister.
