April 11, 1898- The Pilot- William Donnell Pettingill

Died- At the home of Joe Thompson, Saturday April 9, W.D. Pettingill, aged seventy years and seven months. Mr. Pettingill was born in Winthrop, Main, in September, 1827. In February, 1864, he enlisted in the Third Maine Volunteer Infantry and served till Jun, 1865, when he was honorably discharged. He was a charter member of John A. Dix Post No. 52 and always took great interest in G.A.R. work and no appeal of a worthy veteran ever passed him unnoticed. The funeral services were held at the Baptist church Sunday at 2:30 under the auspices of the John A. Dix Post, Rev. Green delivering the funeral sermon. The remains were laid at rest in the soldier's lot in the Blair Cemetery.
