Note: tombstone has William F.

Frederick William Schoettger was born July 29, 1812, Kurhrssen, Germany.

On Dec. 29, 1845, he landed in New Orleans, La., where he remained but a short time, when he again started westward, stopping at Quincy, Illinois, at which place he made his home for twenty-four years.

In 1869 he came with his family to Washington County, Nebraska, and bought a farm near Fontanelle, where he lived up to the time of his death. Mr. Schoettger was a thrifty farmer and managed to gain & large amount of property by hard work and skillful management which enabled him and his wife to spend their last! years in ease and comfort, surrounded by their family of three daughters and four sons, all of whom survive him.

He lived a long and useful life and though he died at the ripe old age of eighty-four years, it was nonetheless hard for his family to give him up, who had been their strength and comfort; and desolate, indeed, is the old home for his aged wife and children. He was a kind and loving husband and father, a true friend and neighbor, and beloved by a large circle of friends and acquaintances who mourn the loss of a good man.

His death, while not wholly unexpected, was sudden, he being sick but a few hours. The funeral services were held at the Lutheran church, of which he was a member, where an immense concourse of people assembled to pay the last tribute of love and esteem, and the remains laid to rest in the cemetery near the church. His children are married and live in this community, who, with their aged mother, have the heartfelt sympathy of their many friends in their sad bereavement.-Arlington Times.
