December 21, 1936- Arlington Review Herald- Jennie Amelia (Rector) Offen

Mrs. Jennie A. Offen, mother of Mrs. M.E. Winset, passed away at her home in Blair on Wednesday December 24, after a week’s illness although she had been in failing health for the past year. Her funeral was held at the Blair Congregational church on Saturday afternoon, with Rev. Van Valkenburgh in charge and was largely attended by relatives, neighbors and friends of the deceased. Interment was in the Blair cemetery.

Jennie Amelia Rector was born in Cape Vincent, N.Y. December 7, 1850. She was educated in the public schools of the community and taught there successfully for a number of years.

She was united in marriage on November 5, 1874 to Benjamin Offen, a Civil War Veteran. In 1885 the couple moved to a farm which they purchased near Spencer, Ia. and where they resided until 1907, when they moved to Greenfield, Tenn. They came to Blair in 1917 to be near their children. Mr. Offen died in 1925. Mrs. Offen was a member for a number of years of the Blair Congregational church. She was also active in the W.R.C. and took great interest in the patriotic and educational work of the D.A.R. for which society she was eligible since she was a great granddaughter of Capt. Nicholas Rector an officer in the Revolutionary War. Mrs. Offen had a keen mind and was greatly interested in work affairs.

She leaves behind two daughters Mrs. M.E. Winset of Arlington and Belvan Offen of Blair and one son Leslie Offen also of Blair, besides five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, and a host of friends, all of whom will greatly miss her.
