June 5, 1899- The Pilot-Fred A. "Fritz" King

The death of Fritz King came like a thunderbolt upon the community last Saturday morning. He apparently was in perfect health Friday evening and returned to his boarding place, August Verlautz’ home, about eleven o’clock. After midnight the family were awakened by a noise in the direction of Fritz’ room, and on going there found him on the floor, breathing his last. A doctor was called but he only lived about five minutes after being found- congestion of the brain being the cause of death. Deceased has lived in this county for fifteen years, and has been in the employ of August Verlautz for over nine years. He resided with his mother near Blair for some time previous to her death, which occurred two years ago. Of German parentage he made many friends in the county who are shocked to hear of his sudden death. He leaves a sister, Mrs. Dohlberg of Arlington, and brother Wm. King of Arlington to mourn his loss. Mr. King was a member of the fire department, and a charter member of the band, also a member of the Modern Woodmen who had charge of the funeral which took place yesterday at two o’clock from the home of Mr. Verlautz. The floral offerings were beautiful and costly and a measure showed the high esteem in which he was held. The procession was one of the most solemn that ever passed through Blair, being headed by the Blair band playing a funeral dirge, followed by the fire department in uniform, the lodge and the carriages. Mr. King was a young man of good habits, much thought of by all who knew him, and who will miss him from his accustomed place of business.
