24 July, 1899 - The Pilot - Mrs. Louis Wachter

The sad news of the death of Mrs. Louis Wachter was telephoned down to August Verlautz, her uncle, Wednesday morning. It soon spread over town and everywhere were words of pity for the sorrowing husband. Coming so soon after the cyclone in which he lost everything he possessed in a material way it seems doubly sad. Then too, it is but a year ago one of his little boys got his leg crushed and it had to be amputated. But more poignant than all else is the loss of a dear wife at such a time. She leaves three girls and one boy, the youngest but three and one-half years old. It is believed that she never recovered entirely from the shock of the cyclone, but she was only bedfast for the past two weeks. On Sunday Dr. Allison, of Omaha, performed an operation, which he said was the only alternative, but she continued to fail until death came about 7 o'clock Wednesday morning. Deceased was born near Milwaukee, Wis., about thirty-eight years ago, coming with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Bree,to locate near Herman when about five years of age. She was married to Louis Wachter while he was living on the farm, but shortly after they moved to Herman where Mr. Wachter engaged in the implement business. And now to him, in this time of his deepest sorrow, we extend to him our heartfelt sympathy and assure him the same from all The Courier readers.-Courier
