| 26 Jan.,1899 - The Pilot - Hank and Chris Kepler (brothers who died a few days apart)
The Kepler Boys. As the result of relapse in measles Mr. and Mrs. Kepler, of Herman, lost two sons aged respectively, aged eighteen and twenty-two years. Chrissie 11 B. the younger, was born May 12, 1881 at Mt. Vernon, Iowa, and died Jan, 13, 1899 at 1:40 p, m. at his Herman home and was buried Jan. 14, 1899 at 2 p. m. Hank H. was born Sept. 28, 1876 at Mt. Vernon, Iowa, and died at 1:40a.m. Jan. 16, 1899 at his Herman home and was buried Jan. 17, 1899 at 10 a. m. These boys were the oldest sons of Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Kepler and not only were favorites in the family but in the community as well. They were industrious, kind and loving boys who had cultivated none but good habits and gave promise of being noble men, such as are a credit to any community. The boys were taken with measles about New Years and had gotten along nicely and were up and around but with a sudden change of weather both caught cold and lung trouble set in with fatal effects. THE PILOT joins with the many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Kepler and family in extending sympathy to the bereaved ones whose loss at this time seems more than the human heart can stand. In their Christian belief they have a consolation that always bears up at such a time. The boys were good Christian boys and they have simply gone to the reward of a noble life.
