May 24, 1902- Arlington Herald- Anna (Claasen) Reckmeyer

Died: At her home in the west part of the village at 10 o’clock a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 1902, Mrs. Anna Reckmeyer, aged 72 years, 28 days.

Mrs. Reckmeyer was born at Forlitz, Ostfriesland, April 22, 1830. She came to America in 1850, locating at Quincy, Illinois, where in 1853 she was married to her now surviving husband, Henry C. Reckmeyer. Removing from there first to Perry, then to Bushnell, Ill., they finally came to Arlington in 1888 at which place they have since resided. Eleven children were born to them, of whom six survive, three living in Arlington, two at Osceola, Neb., and one having but recently moved to Oregon. Mrs. Reckmeyer became a member of the M.E. Church in 1851, of which she was a faithful and consistent member. She was a woman of decided Christian character, thoroughly conscientious and sincere in her actions. To know her was but to be convinced of her truly noble Christian character. Though of a quiet, unassuming disposition, her noble influence was nevertheless felt by all who had the pleasure of acquaintance, or came in contact with her. Mrs. Reckmeyer had been ailing for sometime but did not deem it necessary to call in medical aid until early this spring. Despite all efforts and means employed, she kept failing more and more until death finally made an end to her suffering, brought on by a growth of a malignant character within her abdominal cavity, an operation for which was not deemed advisable at her age. Besides a husband and six children, she leaves many relatives and friends to mourn her loss.
