DIED: At his home in the west part of Arlington on Thursday, June 12, 1902, Henry C. Reckmeyer, aged 80 years, 6 months and 27 days.

Deceased was born November 15, 1821 at Bokel bel Halie, Westphalia. In 1846 he came to America, landing at St. Louis and later locating at Quincy, Ill. He was a cooper by trade, which he followed for a number of years. In 1853 he was married to Miss Anna Bicke. After residing in Illinois for a number of years, he with his family came to Nebraska in 1888, locating at Arlington where he resided until his death. In his earlier days he was an active member of the M.E. Church, serving both as class leader and local preacher, until enfeebled health compelled him to lay down the work.

During his residence of 14 years in Arlington he became well known and was respected and beloved by all who knew him for his honest dealing and upright Christian character. During the past seven years he became quite an invalid, requiring the care of his family, which was at all times most freely and lovingly given. His devoted wife, whose death was recorded but a short month ago, had hoped to survive him that she might take care of him during his remaining days, but an all-wise Ruler ruled otherwise. Yet it is often the case where an aged devoted couple, having spent many years of life’s journey together, that when one is called hence the other soon follows, and so it was in this case. So near were their deaths together, it may be said that, joining hands, they crossed the river of death together, together awaiting the Master’s call, “Well done good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joys of thy Lord.”

Six children, all but two of whom are married, are left, besides numerous relatives and friends to mourn his loss.
