Died, at the residence of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Loosing on the north edge of town, Bertha Edele Thompson, aged 11 years and 12 days, death being caused by diabetes. Deceased was born in this vicinity on August 24, 1890 and died Sept. 6, 1902 Bertha was a bright and amiable child, beloved by her immediate relatives and by her classmates in school, as was shown by their attendance and presentation of flowers at the funeral services held in part at the house on Tuesday last, Rev. Hilgendorf officiating. Bertha was always a regular attendant at the Congregational Sunday School and delighted in being present each Sabbath, even being present on the one preceding her death, at which time she was presented with a beautiful book as a reward for regular attendance. After the preliminary services at the house her remains were taken to the Lutheran church north of town where the services were continued, and from there taken to their last resting place in the cemetery near the church. The pallbearers were, Henry Brinkman, Willie Schmidt, George Lasker, Louis Walkenhorst, Eddie Lasker and Willie Lentz. She leaves behind, besides her mother and father, of whom she was an only child, a large circle of relatives and friends who mourn her early demise.
