MRS. M. SUMMERS, PIONEER, IS DEAD

FUNERAL RITES FOR LADY 74 YEARS OLD, WERE HELD TODAY

Mrs. Mary Summers, resident of Washington County for the past 60 years, died Monday, March 27, at the age of 74. Funeral services were held from the Christian church in Blair this (Thursday) afternoon at two o’clock, with supply minister from Florence officiating, and interment was made in the Blair cemetery.

As Mary Narcissus Rose, Mrs. Summers was born at Keokuk, Iowa, June 17, 1859, and when she was 14 years old she accompanied her parents to Washington County, Nebraska. She was married to John W. Summers in 1880 and to the union three children were born, John Henry Summers of Herman, with whom she had made her home for a number of years, Cody and Nettie Jane Summers. The latter two children and her husband preceded Mrs. Summers in death. Surviving her are the one son, and three nephews, J.H. and Andrew Jordan and Ardley Rose, as well as a number of more distant relatives.

In early childhood, Mrs. Summers became a member of the United Brethren church, but shortly afterward she transferred her membership to the Christian church and throughout the remainder of her lifetime she remained a faithful member of that sect.
