EARLY ARLINGTON RESIDENT IS DEAD: MRS. FANNIE LONG DIES IN LINCOLN SUNDAY

Mrs. Fannie Elizabeth Long, 69, an early resident of Nebraska, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Fassett, in Lincoln early Sunday morning. She had been ailing a number of years and had been confined to bed since suffering from paralysis five years ago.

Mrs. Long, who was Fannie Elizabeth Charles before her marriage, was born at Hilltop, Staffordshire, England, on September 2, 1862, the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Jabez Charles. When 3 years of age she moved with her parents to the United States, living first in Pennsylvania and two years later moving to Nebraska. The family resided for a time in Omaha where her father was a pioneer Methodist circuit minister a number of years. Later he served pastorates in many northeast Nebraska towns, several of which he visited before railway lines extended to them.

In the seventies the family moved to Belle Creek neighborhood, now Arlington, where she was united in marriage to William D. Long on November 20, 1880. Mr. and Mrs. Long continued their residence in Arlington until 1918, when they moved to Fremont. Mr. Long died five years ago. Shortly after his death Mrs. Long was stricken with paralysis and moved to the home of her daughter Mrs. Fassett to reside. Although bedridden, she never lost her cheerfulness which dominated her life.

Mrs. Long was a member of the Methodist church, the Arlington chapter of the Eastern Star, of which she was past matron, the American War Mothers, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the American Legion auxiliary. Three sons and a son-in-law served in the World War.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Pearl E. Fassett, Lincoln, and Mrs. Mary Peter, Albion; and three sons, Charles F. Long, Fremont; Lewis D. Long, Herman and Earl P. Long, Omaha. Four grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Arlington at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon.
