C. L. NETHAWAY OF FLORENCE DIES

REAL ESTATE DEALER AND POLITICIAN, 69, TO BE BURIED IN BLAIR

Claude L. Nethaway, 69, Florence real estate dealer and politician and a former resident of the DeSoto vicinity, died yesterday at his home on North 30th street. He had suffered a heart attack after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Nethaway first came into public prominence 20 years ago when his first wife, the first of three, was slain in one of the most sensational and baffling murders in Omaha history.

Mrs. Nethaway was horribly hacked to death three and one half miles northwest of Florence, along a railroad right-of-way, on a Sunday afternoon in August, 1917. Eventually a Negro was sentenced to a life term in the Nebraska penitentiary for the crime.

He is survived by his widow, Eunice, and two sisters. Funeral services will be held from the Florence Community House Friday at 2:30 p.m., burial to follow in Blair cemetery.
