Frederick William Smith was born August 31, 1860 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He came to Washington County, Nebraska when about 7 years of age. In his younger days he was engaged in farm work and later took up the carpenter trade in which he continued until his old age.

On June 27, 1917 he was united in marriage with Miss Emma Stork.

On October 24, he suffered a paralytic stroke, and died quite unexpectedly on October 28, shortly before midnight, at the age of 71 years, 1 month, and 27 days. He leaves his bereaved widow, 2 brothers, 2 sisters and 4 brothers-in-law, 3 sisters in law and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. G.W. Wolter, at one o’clock Saturday afternoon at the home and at 1:30 at the St. Paul’s church where he had been in regular attendance and for a number of years, treasurer of the church. Interment was made at St. Paul’s cemetery. Over 100 persons attended the funeral.
