ED SCHAFERSMAN, RURAL MERCHANT, DEAD AT AGE 66

RITES HELD FOR WELL-KNOWN TELBASTA MAN, LIFETIME COUNTIAN

Ed Schafersman, 66, general merchant for 45 years at Telbasta north of Arlington, died at his home Monday morning. He had been in poor health since suffering a stroke last May.

A progressive merchant, his store was well-known to residents of the west side of Washington County.

Mr. Schafersman was born near Telbasta December 12, 1871 within two miles of the place of his death. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gottlieb Schafersman. After growing to manhood, he accepted a position in the store of P.Z. Wilson, where he learned the mercantile business. In the early nineties, he was placed in charge of the Telbasta store, later operating it as Schafersman and Strenger. Still later he secured sole ownership of the store.

Surviving the Telbasta merchant are his wife, Mary; two sons, Clarence and Chester, both of Telbasta; one daughter, Mrs. Vera Melvard of Arlington; and a brother, William Schafersman of Lincoln.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Telbasta, a large throng of friends being present to pay their last respects.
