Edward J. "Jack" Gilliland, 70, of Blair, died Tuesday, January 19, 1999, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 23, at the First Lutheran Church in Blair.

Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Edward J. "Jack" Gilliland was born May 9, 1928, in Blair to Albert and Agnes (Ackerman) Gilliland. On June 17, 1950, he married Mary Ibsen in Harlan, Iowa.

He began painting at the age of 10 and continued painting until his death. He also hung wallpaper and finished woodwork and cabinets. When time allowed he also built homes.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; four sons and one daughter, Bruce, Tom, Roger and Marsha, all of Blair, and Lyle of Lawton, Oklahoma; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, George of Houston, Texas; and one sister, Marie Mindenhall of Omaha.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

Memorials may be directed to the Blair Rescue Squad or Blair Fire Department.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
