DEATH COMES SUNDAY

CATHOLIC FUNERAL RITES HELD TUESDAY FOR LONGTIME BLAIRITE, AGE 80

HER DEATH CHALKED UP AGAINST THE 1956 TOLL

Miss Mary Kelly, 80-year-ole longtime resident of Blair died at Memorial Community Hospital on Sunday morning of injuries sustained Dec. 20 when involved in a traffic accident. Miss Kelly was struck by a pickup truck at Walker Ave. and Lincoln St.—the City Hall corner—while walking to church early that morning.

The body was taken to the Campbell Mortuary. The rosary was recited at the mortuary Monday night at 8 o’clock. Funeral rites were held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, the Rev. Edward C. O’Donnell officiating. Burial followed in Holy Cross cemetery here.

Miss Kelly’s death is chalked up as a traffic fatality. Since it occurred in 1956, her death is marked up against the 1956 toll, and Patrolman Raymond Koerber reports that makes five traffic deaths in both 1955 and 1956 for Washington County.

Daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Kelly, Mary Kelly was born in Iowa Aug. 7, 1876, but spent most of her life in Blair. For many years she kept house for her sisters, the late Elizabeth and Katherine Kelly on West Park St., while the latter two were employed as clerks in downtown Blair.

She is survived by a brother, John, of California, and a niece, Miss Ethel Kelly of Blair, and a nephew, Paul Kelly, now in Arkansas. A niece, Miss Margaret Kelly, longtime Blair High School teacher, died last fall.
