Richard Switzer

Richard (Dick) Frederick Switzer, 82, of Sioux Center, entered his heavenly home on Sept. 16, 2022. Dick was born to Frederick and Edna (Bode) Switzer on Nov. 25, 1939 in Atlantic. His childhood was spent in rural Cass County, where he attended Atlantic Community Schools. Dick went on to serve in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Dick married Sonja (Jacobsen) Switzer on Feb. 23, 1973 in Red Oak. Following their marriage, they resided in Malvern before moving to the Omaha, Neb. area where they lived until relocating to Sioux Center in July 2021. Dick spent many years working in grain commodity sales. In 1985, he founded Switzer Trading Company which he continued to operate until his retirement in December 2021.

Dick was a long-time member of Gideon International, serving in Omaha and Orange City. He was devoted to church and family activities and enjoyed sports of all kinds.

He is survived by his wife, Sonja. Daughters: Kim (Phil) Herr of Syracuse, Ind., Keri (Kirk) Pape of Marquette. Five grandchildren: Haley (Eric) Brown and Maclain Herr of Syracuse, Ind.; Josh (Britlyn) Franzen, Fayette, Jordan Franzen, Cedar Falls, and Jerod (Madison) Franzen, Eldorado. Six great-grandchildren: Goldie and Drew Brown; Kelby, Braylee, Avery, and Liam Franzen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Edna Switzer, sister and brother-in-law Marilyn and Gene Hockom. Also, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Warren and Gudrun Jacobsen, Emery and Isabel Hoegh, and Leon Hoegh.

Other survivors are special friends Snigdha Peddireddy and Virinchi Peddireddy of Hyderabad, India, and many other relatives and friends. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, Sept. 27 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hull at 10:30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to Gideon International, Samaritan's Purse, or St. Paul Lutheran Church. Interment will be held at Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery in Elk Horn on Friday, Sept. 30, 2022 at 1 p.m.
