Funeral Service 11am Saturday, April 2, 2022 Lutheran Church of the Master, Omaha, Nebraska. Graveside Service and Interment 10am Monday, April 4, 2022 Memorial Cemetery, 800 West 23rd St., Fremont, Nebraska.

Donald E. Schuler died on March 30, 2022, at the age of 84. He was born June 25, 1937, in Omaha, NE, and moved with his family to Hooper, NE, in 1949.

He graduated from Hooper High School in 1955, attended Iowa State College for a year, and then began the (US Dept. of Labor approved) Tool and Die Maker Apprenticeship sponsored by Western Electric.

Don and his wife Sherryl were married September 26, 1958, at Bluffs Trinity Lutheran at rural Fremont, NE.

His apprenticeship was interrupted in 1961 when his Army Reserve unit was called to active duty during the build up to the Vietnam war. He and Sherryl moved to Colorado Springs and was stationed at Ft. Carson, CO, for 10 months. He came back to Western Electric and graduated the apprentice program. He served in the U.S. Army and Reserves for 6-1/2 years.

Don earned his Bachelor of Science, Industrial Engineering degree at University of Nebraska-Omaha. He continued working at Western Electric in the engineering department until 1976 when he went to work at Vickers, Inc. as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer and then as an engineering supervisor. While working there, he earned his Master of Business Administration degree from University of Nebraska-Omaha.

Don was active as an officer of American Society of Metals, officer of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, on the Tool & Die Advisory Board at Iowa Western Community College, on the Industrial Technology Advisory Boards of the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, chapter officer and branch officer for Thrivent Financials for Lutherans, American Legion Nebraska Post 18 member and chaplain, member of the 40 & 8 Voiture 1018 Nebraska, Red Cross volunteer, 4-H leader, board member of Jean’s Storytime, Meals on Wheels volunteer driver, Lutheran Church of the Master usher, council member, Sunday School teacher, confirmation group leader, Vacation Bible school volunteer, and Men’s Breakfast study leader.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis and Margaret Schuler.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sherryl; children, Shelley (John) Ash, of Villa Rica, GA, and Bill Schuler of Lincoln, CA, granddaughters, Rebecca (Jacob) Capra and Rachel Ash; great-grandsons, Gabe and Eli Capra of Douglasville, GA; brothers, Vern (Judy) Schuler of Hooper, NE, Jim Schuler of Fremont, NE; sister, Jan (Con) McGill of Omaha, NE.
