Merritt Leroy Rosenbaum was born on September 1, 1924 in Kennard, Nebraska. He grew up on the family farm west of Kennard, NE and attended March County School before graduating from Kennard High School in 1940. Merritt attended Omaha University when it was a one building institution, and continued his education while he was serving in the United States Army. Merritt served his country for 3 years, including 1 year overseas, followed by 3 years in the Army Reserves. As a young boy, Merritt would ride his Shetland pony to school and in high school he as a member of the Kennard basketball team that participated in the State Tournament.

Merrit met Dorothy Hoier at a Kennard High School reunion that she was attending with a friend; they were seated across from each other. The evening went well, and Merritt married Dorothy Hoier on June 24, 1944 in Alexandria, Louisiana. They were blessed with 4 children: Teddi, Tim, Greg and Teri. They raised their family in Washington and Douglas Counties before moving to Phoenix in 1986. They later moved back to west Omaha.

Merritt farmed, worked as a milkman and car salesman before he found his passion. He entered the Real Estate business, selling homes and purchasing investment property.

Merritt and Dorothy enjoyed going to dances, playing cards with neighbors and traveling, especially their trip to Australia and New Zealand. He was honest, hardworking, and fun loving. Merritt didn’t have hobbies. He often said, “Work is my hobby.” He was an avid Husker fan.

Merritt passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 93 years, 11 months and 27 days. He was preceded in death by his parents Leslie and Edythia and adoptive parents William and Annie; daughter Teri and siblings: Helena McDonald, Chester Rosenbaum, Marie Petitt, Frieda Kruse, Clyde Rosenbaum, Walter Rosenbaum, Gladys Dickmeyer, Selma Allison, Lola Gottsch, Donald Rosenbaum and Leslie Rosenbaum Jr.

Merritt is survived by his wife of 74 years, Dorothy; daughter and son-in-law Teddi and John Selby of Gilbert, AZ; sons and daughters-in-law: Time and Nan Rosenbaum of Hayden, CO and Greg and Sheryl Rosenbaum of Elkhorn, NE; son-in-law Mike Gallenberger; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
