Chris Gutschow died at home in this city at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon of heart trouble. He had an attack on January 28th while on his way home and hasn't been out of the house since. The funeral was held at the home at 2 o'clock and at the Lutheran Church at 2:30, Rev. A. W. Lambrecht officiating.

Christian Gutschow was born in Mechlenberg-Schwerin, Germany, January 5, 1840, and, therefore, was just passed 76 years of age. He served in the war against Bavaria in 64 and 66 and came to this county in 1869. He was married to Miss Catherine Biffer in 1875 and four children were born to them, Mrs. Sophie Frahm of Calhoun, Fred G. of Crafton, Chris of this city and Mrs. Mae McDonald of Council Bluffs. She died in 1884 and in 1889 he was married to Anna Auch and to this union three children were born, William, Marguerite and Catherine, who live at home. His second wife died in 1896. He leaves one brother, Jos. Gutschow and nineteen grandchildren.

Christian Gutschow Called

An attack of heart failure in the latter days of January confined Chris Gutschow to his home until last Saturday when he was stricken with paralysis which resulted in his death at 2 o’clock p.m. on Sunday.

Deceased was a native of Germany, born June 5, 1840, coming to this country in 1869 and had resided in this county most of the time since, engaged in farming, residing on a farm which he owned on the bottom north of Blair for many years. He was a widower and moved to Blair from his farm last year where he has since lived with his two unmarried daughters. Seven children, Mrs. August Frahm of Calhoun, Mrs. Mary McDonald, of Council Bluffs; Fred, of Crofton; Chris., of Blair, and William, Margaret and Katherine, unmarried, of Blair survive him. Also an older brother, Joseph, of this city.

Funeral services were held at the home and at the German Lutheran church at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Rev. A.W. Lambrecht conducting the service the funeral arrangements and burial being in charge of the German Verein of this city of which he was a member.
