Clement Halstead was born March 26, 1864 in Scioto County near Plattsmouth, Ohio, and departed this life at Blair, Nebraska October 30, 1931 at the age of 67 years, 7 months and 4 days.

At the age of nine years, with his parents, he came to Nebraska and grew to manhood at DeSoto and in the Blair neighborhood.

He was married at Blair to Sarah Ellen Gilliland of Iowa June 28, 1885. Into this home came seven children, two of whom preceded their father in death.

The whole community remembers Roy who was in the Marines, and was so badly wounded that for a time he was missing, and who lived only a couple of years after returning home. He died eight years ago. Jesse died two years ago.

The other children join with the wife and mother in her sorrow. They are Mrs. Bertha Good of Omaha, Everett of Maxwell, Calif., Mrs. Gladys King of Harrison county, Iowa, Floyd and Zeke of Blair.

He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Mary McManigal of Glenwood, Ia. and a brother, George of Everett, Michigan. There are nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Nov. 1 at the Methodist church in charge of the paster, and interment was made in the Blair cemetery.

Had lived in Washington County Since 1878

The lifeless body of Clement Halstead was found suspended by a leather shoe lace from a partition in a barn near his home at East Nebraska Street shortly before noon last Friday. County Coroner Henry Menke stated that Halstead had been dead but a short time.

The deceased was born March 26, 1864, near Portsmouth, Ohio, and came with his parents at the age of nine, to Nebraska, locating near DeSoto.

On June 26, 1885, he was married to Sarah Ella Gilliland at Blair and to this union seven children were born, five of whom survive him. Two sons, Roy and Jesse, died during the past eight years.

Surviving him are his bereaved wife, two daughters, Mrs. Bertha Good of Omaha, and Mrs. Gladys King of Harrison County, Iowa; three sons, Floyd and Zeke of Blair, and Everett of Maxwell, California; also a sister, Mrs. Mary McManigal of Glenwood, Iowa, and a brother, George of Everett, Michigan.

Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist Church Sunday afternoon with Rev. Jackson officiating, after which burial was made in the Blair Cemetery.
