Maria Miller was born in Noble County, Ohio December 7, 1829 and died at the home of her son in this county, March 28th, 1910, aged 81 years, 3 months and 23 days.

She was married August 26, 1849 to Peter Flanagan. To this union eleven children were born, eight of whom survive her. Her sons J.M., W.M. and V.C. and the daughter Mary were with her during her last hours; Mrs. Bovee of Oklahoma, Mrs. Matteson of S. Dakota, and Frank of Des Moines, Iowa and D.C. of Minstare, Nebraska, were not able to be present at the funeral which was held at the Cemetery west of Herman. Rev. McCibbon conducted the service. Mrs. Flanagan and family came to Burt county in the spring of 1881. Her husband died in 1891, and since then she has made her home with her son W.M.

The deceased was a strong vigorous woman and would have been active for a number of years, if it were not for a cancer, which caused her death. Her father reached the remarkable age of 102 years and 2 days. The sympathy of the many friends of the family will be extended to the children in the loss of their dear mother.

Mrs. Maria Flanagan passed away last Wednesday, March 30, 1910 after an illness of long duration. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Gibbon of Herman and interment took place Friday at New England. Mrs. Flanagan, whose maiden name was Miller, was born December 7, 1829 in Nobles county, Ohio. On July 26, 1849 she was married to Mr. Flanagan. The fruits of this union were eleven children, three having died in infancy, the remaining being alive and nearly all with her at the time of her death.

Since the death of her husband in 1891, Mrs. Flanagan has made her home with her children.

In 1881 the family removed from Ohio to Burt county, Nebraska. The sons, J.M., Wm and V.C. and one daughter, Miss Mary, are all residents of Burt county. One son, D.C., lives at Minatare, Neb., another, Frank, at Des Moines, Iowa, and there are two daughters, Mrs. Sara Bovee of Shawnee, Ok., and Mrs. Cora Matteson, who lives in South Dakota.

Mrs. Flanagan had a large circle of friends who are sorry at her passing away. She had lived to a ripe old age, and she doubtless felt that death came as a welcome visitor. She leaves numerous friends and relatives besides her children to revere her memory.
