John "Johnnie" Hogan
Died on 1/21/1898
Buried in Holy Cross (Catholic Church) Cemetery

Printed in the Friday, January 28, 1898 Burt County Herald, Tekamah, Nebraska

John Hogan was found dead in bed at his home last Sunday morning. For a few days previous he had been suffering from a slight cold, but retired to his room the evening before, about as well as usual and the family had no knowledge of his death until they went to call him to breakfast the following morning, when they found him cold in the embrace of death, having apparently died without a struggle.

The deceased came to this county a single man, in the territorial days about 1866 and took a homestead five miles south of town. Mr. Hogan (Johnnie as he was familiarly called), was of Irish parentage and endowed with their native wit and brogue, which always made him an attractive character, admired and respected by his many friends and neighbors.

The deceased accumulated a goodly share of this world's goods and leaves a large, well-improved farm to his wife and five sons who survive him.

Note: Year of death on gravestone is incorrect. Obituary was printed in the Burt County Herald, Tekamah, NE on Fri. Jan. 28, 1898.
