Margaret Anna (Hansen) Pokorny

Margaret Anna Pokorny was born March 14, 1873 in Varde, Denmark. Her parents were Nels and Maria Hansen. She entered the Christian faith while a child by baptism in the Danish Lutheran Church. She emigrated to Omaha, Nebraska with her parents in June, 1890. After living in Omaha for several years, the family moved to a farm near Blair. Following the death of her mother, the family came to a farm near Valparaiso in 1902. On November 8, 1905 she was united in marriage to James W. Pokorny at Wahoo, Nebraska. One son was born to this union. She passed from this life on August 6, 1939 at her home in Valparaiso. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and four sisters. Her husband passed away in 1935. She is survived by her son Howard and his wife Luella, of Valparaiso; by three grandchildren, Harold, Marian and Barbara Pokorny; by three brothers, Miller Hansen of Omaha, Carl Hansen of Harlingen, Texas; by one sister, Mrs. Barbara Jacobsen of Raymond; and by unnumbered friends who will miss her but remember her life with appreciation and genuine gladness. ~~~Obituary courtesy of the Nebraska Washington County Genealogical Society.
