Services were October 19 at Hamel-Peck-Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah for Donald W. McKain of Omaha. He died October 15, 1999 in Omaha at the age of 76.

He was born September 8, 1923 in Tekamah to Kelsa C. and Ethel Faye (Seymour) McKain.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946.

November 12, 1945, he married Margie Mae Sheets in Tekamah. They resided in Tekamah for a short time before moving to Omaha.

McKain was a diesel mechanic for Interstate Motor Freight. He was a member and past president of Omaha Mechanics Union Local 21 and lifetime member of VFW Post No. 3304 of Tekamah. Other memberships included South Omaha Eagles 154 and Disabled Veterans.

His parents and brother Edward preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years; son David of Omaha; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Evans of California and Donna and Jim Conrad and Susan and Gary Thompson, all of Omaha; seven grandchildren, Earl, Shelly, Tammy and husband Scott, Kristel, Tanya and husband Chris, Linday and Sarah; seven great-grandchildren, Devon, Jeffery, Dustin, Cody, Christopher, Krista and Jenna Mae; brother, Kelsa Jr. of Fort Calhoun; sisters, Marie Grant of Billingham, Wash., and Frances Tranmer of Tekamah; nieces and nephews.

Rev. Terry Pool was officiant. Leanne Dorathy was organist and John Peck, soloist.

Casket bearers were Keith Blankenship, Ron Jorgensen Jr., Bob Haniszewski, Bob Gallagher, Tom Wilbanks and Jim Van Roy.

Honorary casket bearers were Herb Ganet, Jim West, Jim Pike, Ron Jorgensen Sr., Dennis Galbraith and Boyd Ray.

Military graveside rites were performed by VFW Post No. 3304 and American Legion Post No. 15 of Tekamah at Herman Cemetery.
