Jerry Albert Wesemann, age 69 of Fremont NE passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 23, 2023 after a two-year battle of heart disease.

Jerry was born to Albert and Lucille Wesemann in Omaha, NE and he grew up on the family farm south of Kennard, NE. He attended Peaceful Hill School, and Sunnyside Country School in Washington, NE. He attended Bennington High School, graduating in 1973.

Jerry worked at Ehlers Feed Lot in Valley, Long’s OK Tire in Blair, NE, and Valmont in Valley, NE, retiring in 2016 after 28 years. He worked part-time at the Friendship Center for approximately six months. Jerry also volunteered at the Arlington Volunteer Fire Department for nearly 30 years.

Jerry married, “The best woman in the world,” Patricia (Patty) Witthuhn of Arlington on August 9, 1980 in Arlington, NE. They had just celebrated their 42nd wedding Anniversary.

Jerry’s past time was being a dedicated member of everything he did. He was also a past member of the CERT team in Fremont. He was passionate about the Washington County Fair, where he would help with tractor pulls, demolition derby, and rodeo nights. He was always willing to help someone in some way or another, whether he knew them or not and if he didn’t know you, he instantly became your friend. Some of Jerry’s favorites included the Notre Dame football team, Nebraska Huskers, Sunday afternoon Polka Show with Moostash Joe, The Lawrence Welk Show, spending time with his amazing grandsons, sitting outside in his lawn chair enjoying a warm beer, and just having a good time with family and friends. His pride and joy were his grandsons Aiden (17), Dominik (9), and Dallan (5). He would enjoy sitting and telling them stories of his life on the farm, and would preach many words of wisdom to them.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Lucille Wesemann, his mother- and fathers-in-law Carol and Melvin Sorensen, and Donald Witthuhn; brother-in-law Merle Holling; and nephews Eric Witthuhn and Randy Brokaw.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Patty), son Scott Wesemann of Fremont, and his daughter Shelly (Donovan) Burrack of Gretna, and three amazing grandsons Aiden, Dominik, and Dallan, sister Irene (Rich) Kenkel of Arlington, Michael (Gail) Wesemann of Omaha, twin sister Jean (Donald) Johnson of Blair, and Judi Holling of Blair, brother-in-law Gene (Roxanne) Witthuhn of Arlington, sister-in-law Winnie (Terry) Brokaw of Arlington, as well as several nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephew, and several friends.

There will be a funeral service at First Lutheran Church in Fremont, NE at 11 A.M., Saturday, October 7, 2023 with a luncheon to follow. Pastor Duane Miller will officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour prior the service at church.

A private interment will be at a later date at Arlington Cemetery in Arlington, Nebraska.
