Survived by her granddaughter, Kimberly (Dave) McClanahan; great-grandson, Nickolas Arrington; and great-granddaughter, Mikayla (Austin) Barela; along with many nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL: Wednesday, 11 a.m., at First United Methodist Church, in Blair. VISITATION one hour prior to services, at the church. GRAVESIDE SERVICES: Herman Cemetery.

Doris C. Stokes, age 100 of Blair, passed away October 14, 2023. Services will be held Wednesday October 18, 2023, at First United Methodist Church in Blair. Visitation will be held prior to services beginning at 10:00AM with the funeral service beginning at 11:00AM. A luncheon will follow services. Graveside services will be held in the Herman Cemetery.

Doris was born on April 20, 1923, to Francis F. and Helen (Nelsen) Christiansen on a farm northwest of Herman, Nebraska. Most of her adult life was spent as a resident of Washington County, Nebraska, with a few years in Tekamah and Walthill, Nebraska.

Doris graduated in 1940 from Blair High School and, thereafter, went to Washington DC as a secretary for the Corps of Engineers. Living in DC was an experience for Doris, but she soon decided to come back to Nebraska. In June of 1942, she was united in marriage to Earl W. Stokes. To this union one daughter was born (Carolyn Standen). She was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church in Blair, the Blair Hospital Auxiliary, helping with the rummage sale, the Blair Fireman’s Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, serving for 13 years in Girl’s State, a member of PEO, Red Hatters, Friendship Singers and served on the Board of Directors of Crowell Home for 11 years. Doris was a stay-at-home mom for several years, helping Earl run Stokes Oil. Then in 1959 she went to work at Concrete Equipment Company and served 31 years as a bookkeeper, retiring in 1990. In 2015 she was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Blair Community Schools, for which she was very proud.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Earl, daughter Carolyn Stokes Standen and brother Ivan Christiansen She is survived by her granddaughter Kimberly (Dave) McClanahan, great grandson Nickolas Arrington and great granddaughter Mikayla (Austin) Barela, along with many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be directed to the Blair American Legion, Blair Volunteer Fire and Rescue or the American Diabetes Association. Campbell Aman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
