Helene H. (Nissen) Wehmeyer, 88 years, was called home to be with her Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, at Emerald Nursing Home in Columbus, Neb.

She was born April 26, 1935, in Fremont, Neb., to Frank and Bertha (Schumacher) Nissen.

Helene graduated from Arlington High School in 1953.

She married Albert “Lee” Wehmeyer on Aug. 21, 1955, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Arlington. They moved from Arlington to Nickerson, Neb. in 1985.

Helene was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Arlington. She was active with the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and taught Sunday School. She was a former 4-H leader and faithful friend reading with children. Helene enjoyed baking cookies, gardening and canning. Her family, friends and faith were most important to Helene.

She is survived by her husband, Lee of Nickerson; daughters, Scarlet (Werner) Blank of Madison, Neb., and Patty (Ron) Zrust of Nickerson, Neb.; son, Arnie (Heidi) Wehmeyer of Nickerson; seven grandchildren, Rebecca Utecht, Richard and Colton Wehmeyer, Sadie Vander Streek, Stephanie Adams, Weston and Blake Zrust; 11 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Rod (Marie) Wehmeyer, of Cedar Hill, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews and family friends.

Helene was preceded in death by her parents; and infant brother, Arnold; parents-in-law, Albert and Ella Wehmeyer; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Lorraine and Howard Crull, Neal and Anita Wehmeyer and Merle Wehmeyer.

The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 29, 2023, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Arlington. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m., Thursday, at Reckmeyer Moser Funeral Home in Arlington and continue one hour prior to the service at the Church on Friday.

Burial will be at St. Paul Cemetery in Arlington.

Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church or School in Arlington.
