Mr. Hineline Dies at 83

FORMER DESOTO MAN HEADED 100-MEMBER FOUR GENERATION GROUP

Frank Hineline, former DeSoto resident who was the head of a four-generation family numbering 100 persons, died Saturday at the home of a son, Clifford Hineline, 1216 No. 45th St., Omaha. He was 83 years old.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. yesterday at First Methodist Church in Blair, the Rev. Sidney L. McCaig officiating. Interment, under direction of the Sievers Funeral Home of Fort Calhoun, followed in Blair Cemetery.

Son of Solomon and Catherine Hineline, Mr. Hineline was born at old DeSoto Aug. 19, 1864. Three years of age before Nebraska became a state, Mr. Hineline was a true Nebraska pioneer, and when he was a boy, he witnessed the disintegration of the once-populous and teeming town of DeSoto after the founding of nearby Blair in 1869.

He and Cynthia Ann Stricklett were married Mar. 20, 1884, and for many years farmed at DeSoto, where his wife died. Four years ago Mr. Hineline retired.

Mr. and Mrs. Hineline were the parents of 11 children, seven of whom survive. The survivors include five sons, Harry and Charles Hineline of Blair, Herbert and Clifford Hineline of Omaha, and James Hineline of Bridgewater, Ia.; two daughters, Mrs. Claude Mathews of Omaha and Mrs. Henry Ladwig of Holdrege; two brothers, Charles O. Hineline and Solomon Hineline, Jr., both of DeSoto; a sister, Mrs. Olive Fancher of Oregon City, Ore.; 48 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Frank Hineline, Pioneer Settler, Buried April 28

Native of DeSoto. Born Four Years Before State Admitted.

Frank Hineline, son of Solomon and Catherine Hineline, was born at DeSoto, Washington County, Nebraska, August 19, 1864. He passed away at the home of his son, Clifford, in Omaha, on April 24, 1948, at the age of 83 years, 9 months, 6 days. He was united in marriage to Cynthia Ann Stricklett, March 20, 1884. To this union 11 children were born. Mr. Hineline spent his entire life on the farm at DeSoto until he retired four years ago.

Four years of age when Nebraska became a state, Mr. Hineline grew up in the days of the pioneers. He possessed the friendly hospitality and the spirit of endurance in the face of difficulty that characterized so many men of that day. He will be deeply missed from the family circle and by his old time friends.

There survives his passing, two brothers, Charles O. and Solomon, Jr., DeSoto, Nebraska; a sister, Mrs. Olive Fancher, Oregon City, Oregon, five sons, Harry & Charles of Blair, Herbert and Clifford, Omaha, James of Bridgewater, Adair County, Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. Henry Ladwig, Holdrege, Nebraska. His wife & four children preceded him in death.

There also remain 48 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and many friends.

Funeral services were held in Blair, April 28, 1948, with the Sievers Mortuary of Calhoun in charge & interment was made in the Blair Cemetery.
