Miriam Dale Seaver died of cancer in hospice care at her sister's Fort Calhoun home on Dec. 7. She was born Sept. 29, 1955 in Friend, Neb., while her parents were living in Exeter. The family moved to Big Springs, Hebron, Wahoo and Omaha where she graduated from North High. Her BA degree was from Oberlin College, an MA in linquistics was from University of Michigan and a late MA in applied linguistics was from Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics.

Among her various experiences, Miriam taught ESL at Birzeit University in Ramallah on the West Bank in the Middle East and worked in the national Evangelical Presbyterian Church office. Her faith was an important part of her life and she spent much of the last 17 years in the Middle East (including Jerusalem) helping translate and record Bible stories into vernacular Arabic which she spoke fluently. This past year she taught at Canada Institute of Linguistics near Vancouver, B.C.

She was preceded in death by her parents, LaRoy and Pauline Roberts Seaver, and brother David. She is survived by sister Judi of Fort Calhoun; brothers Mark (Andrea Sedlak) of Monrovia, Md., Tim (Laura) of Hillsborough, N.C.; four step-siblings with families; and six nieces and nephews.

Celebration of life tentatively planned for spring. Memorials to Palestinian Bible Society (group she worked with in the Middle East, on line or c/o family).
