Diane E. Nelson, age 61, of Sidney, IA, she passed away on January 9, 2024, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, NE, she was surrounded by her loving family. At the time of her passing she was an organ donor honoree.

Diane Elizabeth Nelson was born on March 23, 1962, in Omaha, NE; the daughter of Fred L. and Connie (Hansen) Nelson. She grew up in Blair and attended school there. She later moved to Brock, NE and in December 1989, she started at Cargill in Nebraska City, NE. Diane worked in different areas of the plant, but the majority of her years employed, she was the Shipping Supervisor. She loved her job at Cargill and enjoyed the friendships she made with her co-workers.

In 2007, she moved to Sidney, IA. Outside of work, she enjoyed playing darts, bowling in her younger years, the outdoors, and most of all shopping with her grandkids. She loved listening to music of all kinds; especially Adam Lambert and the 80’s bands like Queen, Great White and Pink Floyd. She loved movies, especially Twister, the Lion King, and the Sharknado franchise. Most of all, she loved her family and was incredibly proud to be a grandmother and a great grandmother.

She is survived by her daughter, Leah Ney and significant other Joe Brannon of Thurman, IA; grandchildren: Madison Ney (Cameron Busch), Kaelyn Surrell, Trinity Surrell, and Lane Surrell; great-granddaughter Maisyn Busch, mother Connie Nelson; brother Brett Nelson (Terri) of Omaha, NE; sister Patty Fahey of Nebraska City, NE; nephew Trenton Fahey; other family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her father, Fred L. Nelson; grandmothers: Grace Schrum and Elsie Applebee; uncle and aunts: Gary and Janice Hansen, and Kathy Hansen.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at the Eagles Club in Nebraska City, NE.

Memorials may be given to the family for future designation.
