Vesta M. Hineline, 87, of Grand Island, Nebraska, died Monday, December 17, 2007 at the Grand Island Veterans Home.

Services will be 10am Thursday at the Grand Island Veterans Home, All Faiths Chapel, with Rev. David McCreary officiating. Burial will be at 3pm in Blair City Cemetery.

Kleine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Vesta was born February 17, 1920 in Omaha, Nebraska to James and Martha (Green) Hineline.

Survivors of the immediate family include a brother and sister-in-law, Leo and Helen Hineline of Grand Island; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Althea and Earl Shad of Mt. Ayr, Iowa; Norma Hatcher of Hindsville, Arkansas, and Mary and Bernard Davis of Atlantic, Iowa.

She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Vesta was one of 10 children. As a child, she enjoyed milking cows and growing up on the farm. She graduated from school in Omaha, and then worked as an elevator operator at the Paxton Hotel, Fontenelle Hotel, the Security Building and at Sears. She was never married.

When she was 33, she joined the WAC’s, serving from August 1953 to August 1955. After her discharge, she was employed as a medical aide and worked in the sterile supply department of the Omaha Veteran’s Hospital. In 1973, she had a brain tumor removed and also suffered a stroke.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and a sister.

Memorials are suggested to the Grand Island Veterans Home.
