Roger Hineline, 78, of Grand Island died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.

Services will be at 1:30pm Wednesday at Blair Cemetery in Blair. The Blair American Legion will present military rites.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3pm at the All Faith Chapel at the veterans home. Kleine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hineline was born March 16, 1926 at Florence to James F. and Martha (Green) Hineline.

Survivors of his immediate family include a brother and sister-in-law, Leo and Helen Hineline of Grand Island, and four sisters, Vesta Hineline of Grand Island, Ramona Shad of Mount Ayr, Iowa, Norma Hatcher of Hindsville, Ark., and Mary Davis of Atlantic, Iowa.

Mr. Hineline grew up in Florence and attended school at Tech High in Omaha. At 17, he entered the US Navy and served during World War II, receiving his discharge on July 28, 1947. He served as a seaman 1st class aboard the USS California.

He married Mary and had a son, Roger Dale Hineline. Mary died in 1956.

Later he married Helen, and the two made their homes in Nebraska, Colorado and California.

After Helen’s death, he married Thelma, and they made their home in California.

Mr. Hineline was a truck driver most of his life and retired from Leaseway Trucking Co. 13 years ago. He moved to Grand Island to be closer to his brother, Leo, and his sister, Vesta. He moved to the Grand Island Veterans Home in November because of ill health. In 2002 he proudly received his high school diploma at a special ceremony at the Veterans Home.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence, and a sister, Ruby Stevensen.
