Mary Jo Moore, age 89, Omaha, NE.
Born: September 18, 1934, Magnolia, IA.
Died: January 19, 2024, Omaha, NE.

Mary Jo (Evers) Moore, 89, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024, at Maple Crest Nursing Center ending her long battle with dementia.

(Mary) Jo was born on September 18, 1934 to Herman and Leona (Flaharty) Evers. She grew up in rural Magnolia, Iowa and graduated from Magnolia High School in 1952. She met DeLloyd (De) on a blind date during her junior year of high school. De and Jo were married on December 30, 1952. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2002, the year De passed away.

The couple lived in Moorhead, Iowa after they were first married. They raised their family in Logan, Iowa. In 1968, they moved their family to Fort Calhoun, Nebraska. Years later they left Fort Calhoun and moved to Woodbine, Iowa to be closer to De’s mother, Irene. She continued to live in Woodbine after De passed away in 2002. Her next move took her to a small apartment in Modale, Iowa where she stayed until the threat of flooding in 2011. She stayed a short time with Judy & John until she could move into a small apartment in Fort Calhoun. Health concerns caused her to move to Maple Crest Nursing Center in Omaha, Nebraska in 2019. Where she resided until her death.

Jo had various jobs during her life. She was a nurse’s aide, factory worker at Wilkinson Mfg. and Nebraska Machine Products and for many years a daycare provider in Logan, Fort Calhoun & Woodbine. She was very proud of the children she cared for over the years, they were like grandchildren to her. They all treated her like she was their grandma, some would even keep in touch. During the years in Logan & Fort Calhoun she was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader.

Jo was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandma, and great grandma. She enjoyed her family, traveling with De, fishing, crocheting, Scrabble, Farkle and card games (especially poker!) and trips to the casino. She was a great cook, enjoyed baking and sharing Christmas cookies and banana bread. Everyone wanted that recipe and fought over the last piece!

Jo is survived by her children Patty Alexander of Fort Calhoun, NE; Judy (John) Schmit of Ericson, NE; DeLloyd Wayne (Randi) Moore, Jr. of Schuyler, NE; brother John Evers of Mountain Home, AR; Sister, Dana (Bill) Sillau of Marcus, IA; brother in law, Gale (Gus) Moore of Ashland, NE; 14 grandchildren including their spouses; 24 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jo was preceded in death by her husband DeLloyd; parents Herman and Leona Evers; father in law, Don Moore, mother in law Irene (Fred) Bollinger; brother Dwight; brother and sister in law, Marvin and Joanne Evers; sister and brother in law, Tony and Chester Caddell; sister and brother in law, Rae and Bob Mullen; sister in law, Fran Evers; sister in law, Patricia Moore; son in law, Larry Alexander.
