Killus West, 74, Falls Dead

Herman Man Came to Nebraska in a Covered Wagon 67 Years Ago

Herman, Nebraska—Killus B. West, 74, who came to Nebraska with his parents in a covered wagon when seven years old, fell dead of a heart attack Saturday in the Herman business section.

Son of Miles and Margaret West, he was born in Terre Haute, Indiana March 7, 1874, and was the last survivor of this family. He had spent most of his life in Herman.

Mr. West and Veana Bell Pyles were married December 22, 1904. To them were born six children, two daughters and four sons. A son, Julian, preceded the father in death.

Surviving Mr. West are two daughters, Mrs. Stella Sanderson of San Luis Obispo, California, and Mrs. Alice Grothe of Herman; three sons, Clifford West of Herman, Woodrow of Blair and Kenneth West of Council Bluffs, Iowa. There are ten grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Herman Baptist Church, the Rev. Robert Wigert officiating. Interment was in Herman cemetery. Pallbearers were William Lowe, Frank Eriksen, Pete Carpenter, John Forsberg, Ed Hoover, and E.E. Entrekin.
