After a courageous and hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer, John passed peacefully surrounded by his loved ones. John was born to the late Donald and Marilyn (Tarrant) Dugan in Omaha, NE. He went home to eternal peace with our Lord on March 25, 2025.
John married Linda (Allen) Dugan and raised two sons: Allen and Ethan. In his later years, John relished his role as a grandfather, showering love and attention on his grandchildren: Brandon and Sophia and his daughter-in-law Tasha.
Raised in Omaha and Blair, NE, John graduated from Blair High School. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha as an electrician. John later attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, graduating with a Construction Engineering degree. He worked numerous years as a construction estimator and later acquired his electrical contractor’s license starting his own successful electrical contracting business.
John enjoyed traveling, having visited all 50 states and several U.S. territories. He also traveled to numerous countries throughout the world. John hiked the ruins of Peru with his best friend, John Smith; he lifted pints with his sons in several pubs in Ireland; and with his wife by his side, John traversed one end of the Earth to the other (Denali to Antarctica) and several countries throughout Europe, South America, Central America and the Caribbean. John loved every place he and Linda visited and all the amazing experiences they shared on their many wonderful adventures together or with their sons on family vacations. He also relished his annual trips with his grandchildren to amusement parks and warm sunny beaches.
John was a lifelong, devoted Husker fan and shared that love with his family. He found joy in gardening, woodworking, swim parties that included his famous barbecuing skills, reading, fishing, playing catch with Shannon, his beloved Red & White Irish Setter, and hanging out with John, his lifelong friend.
John is survived by his loving family: his wife of nearly 40 years, Linda Dugan; sons Allen Dugan and Ethan (Tasha) Dugan; grandchildren Brandon and Sophia; his dear friend John (Mateel) Smith; brother Michael Dugan, and numerous additional family and friends. John is preceded in death by his parents.
