Norman Harold Frey was born on February 23, 1932, in Pender, Nebraska, to Harold and Alpha (Morris) Frey. They moved to Burt County in March of 1932. He attended Edgington and Schultz schools, graduating from Lyons High School in 1949. He began farming before graduation and was an FFA state farmer.

Norman married Mary Ellen Ruhe on January 20, 1951, and to this union Rhonda, Iris and JoNell were born.

Besides farming for 27 years, Norman held part-time jobs including carpentry, truck driver, service station attendant, school bus driver and custom combining. He also worked for Case IH for 27 years and was a toll collector at the Decatur bridge for 9 years. He retired for the last time at 82 years of age.

Norman was president of the Logan Township, where he farmed, and was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lois Vavra.

Norman is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters: Rhonda (Dan) McMurtry, Iris (Rod) Doolittle and JoNell (Mike) Burns; 8 grandchildren; and 13 1/2 great-grandchildren.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Saturday, April 12, 2025, 2 p.m., at Bethany Lutheran Church in Lyons, NE.
