Anne T. Keenan was born in Omaha on May 13, 1955. She passed away on Friday, April 25, 2025. Anne attended St. Patrick’s Elementary from first through eighth grade. She graduated from Notre Dame Academy in Omaha in 1973. Anne received a bachelor’s degree in history from UNO and then graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in Library Science. Anne worked in the research area of the University of Missouri Library where she especially enjoyed helping people with genealogy questions.
Anne then moved to Blair to be the Head Librarian at the Blair Public Library. Later Anne went back to school and became certified as a high school librarian, serving at high schools in Blair and Des Moines. She retired from her library position at Conestoga Elementary in Omaha in May 2023.
Anne had a zest for life. She became involved with a mixed league softball and volleyball group after moving to Blair. Many of these friends took annual trips canoeing on the Niobrara River. Anne could not pass up a sign for a garage sale or an estate sale where she would find treasures of jewelry, purses, art, and furniture.
It amazed friends what she could fit into her Toyota! She also loved to score tickets to “Antiques Roadshow” with high school friends. Anne enjoyed working in her garden with flowers and many tomato plants. Outings to garden centers and botanical gardens were a special pleasure with friends. She loved to travel and had a group who joined her in trying out restaurants with international menus.
Anne loved to go to exercise classes at the YMCA. She also enjoyed walking all around town as well as hiking in the Loess Hills. Of course, Anne’s favorite thing to do was read books, especially about World War II. She always had multiple books in her car and by her bedside table. She enjoyed recommending books to others as well.
Anne is preceded in death by her brother, Charles, and her nephew, Eli. She is survived by a wealth of friends who loved her dearly. A Celebration of Life will be held at First Lutheran Church in Blair on Monday, May 12, at 4 p.m. A light meal will follow the service. No flowers requested. Donations may be designated to the Blair Public Library, Washington County Recycling or the Blair YMCA.
