Charles Stewart Cameron

Charles Stewart Cameron, long time resident of the Herman and Tekamah area, passed away Friday morning at the Community Memorial Hospital in Blair, after suffering a stroke at his home.

Mr. Cameron was born in Washington County on the “Cameron Ranch” east of Herman on February 6, 1879, and died on July 31, 1959, at the age of 80 years.

He spent his early life on the “ranch” and attended Herman Public Schools receiving further business education in Lincoln, Nebraska.

He was married September 1, 1923, to Leah Bowker, and to this union one daughter, Leah Charleen, was born.

In 1931 Mr. Cameron moved with his family to Tekamah where he was engaged in farming and the insurance business.

Mr. Cameron’s earlier business was auctioneering, where he specialized in purebred stock sales and real estate. In 1937, he became associated with The Mutual and United Insurance Company in Omaha. He was district manager for Northeastern Nebraska for 25 years.

Mr. Cameron was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tekamah, and served a term as trustee. He was a thirty-second degree Mason, a Shriner belonging to Tangier Temple, Omaha, Nebraska, a member of The Landmark Lodge No. 222 AF & AM at Herman for fifty years, and a member of Order of Eastern Star, Chapter No. 131 at Tekamah. He participated in a number of local and civic organizations.

Survivors include his wife, Leah, daughter, Mrs. Karl Loerch, Lincoln, Nebraska, three grandchildren, Karla, Lea and Cameron Loerch of Lincoln; a brother, Max Leo of Little Rock, Arkansas; 8 nieces and nephews; 12 grand-nieces and grand-nephews; numerous cousins.

Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah Monday afternoon, August 3rd. Burial was in the Tekamah cemetery.
