Lifelong Blair resident Richard D. Kubie, age 92, passed away on August 5, 2025.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at First United Methodist Church in Blair. Visitation will be Friday, August 8, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair. Interment will follow the funeral at Blair Cemetery.
Richard was born on October 5, 1932, in Blair, to Ernest Joseph and Hermine Marie (Ollerman) Kubie. He graduated from Blair High School in 1950 and married Mary Jo Andrews on July 17, 1960.
That same year, Richard began working for the Western Electric division of AT&T, primarily in the tool department, where he remained until his first retirement in 1992. Alongside his full-time job, he partnered with his brother Reynold to operate Kubie Cobs and Trucking. Never one to be idle, Richard drove a school bus for Blair Community Schools from 1992 until fully retiring in 2019 at the age of 86. He also served the Blair community as a volunteer member of the Blair Fire Department and Rescue Squad for 50 years and was a frequent blood donor.
In his 40s, Richard took up running and was often spotted jogging through the streets of Blair. He participated in numerous races, frequently winning or placing in his age division. He enjoyed time spent cutting and splitting wood with his brothers and nephews and found joy in relaxing by a warm fire. Family vacations were a highlight — especially cooking breakfast on his Coleman stove. He liked playing in couples Euchre Club with his wife and later his daughter-in-law, and in the fall, he could be found watching Nebraska football with a bowl of popcorn by the fire.
Richard is survived by his son Scott and wife Cherie, daughter Kris (Attema) and husband Glen, grandchildren Raef and Ross, sister Isabelle (Gene Thomas), and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Jo and siblings Reynold (Patty) Kubie, Vivienne (Hap) Warrick, Lawrence Kubie, Meredith Kubie, Harriett Ollerman and Eunice Kubie.
In honor of Richard’s lifelong dedication to Blair, memorial contributions are encouraged to be made directly to an organization serving the Blair community.
