Slader, John Dorsey, age 74 of Fort Calhoun, NE.
Born: March 12, 1951, Omaha, NE.
Died: August 10, 2025, Omaha, NE.
John passed away peacefully from congestive heart failure on August 10 surrounded by family and friends at Bergan Mercy Hospital.
John was born in Omaha, NE, and spent the majority of his life in Fort Calhoun, NE. He attended Chadron State College, studying history and earth science. His 40-plus year career with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission saw many changes, not the least of which were the rebuilding of Fort Atkinson and supporting buildings and the development of the living history program. John was a commissioner for the signature event of the Lewis and Clark 200-year commemoration held at Fort Atkinson. He also oversaw Summit Lake SRA and Pelican Point in 1992.
He married Joanne Kubinski and they enjoyed 32 years together.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Dean C. Slader and Genevieve R. (Dorsey) Slader, his sister-in-law, Grace Slader, his brother-in-law, Gary Bennerotte, his niece, Jennifer A. (Jason) Dahl and their unborn daughter Delane E. Dahl.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne Slader, brother Dean S. Slader (Valley, NE), sisters Susan G. Bennerotte (Maryville, MO) and Martha A. (Bob) Haines (Kirkland, WA), nephew Stephen (Kathy) Slader (Omaha, NE), nieces Renee (Patrick) Zerwig (St. Louis, MO), Kristina (Ken) Hedley (Glen Ellyn, IL), Amy (Todd) Andrews (Parkville, MO), Kara (Lance) White (Wamego, KS) and Emily Haines (Napa, CA), 14 great nieces and nephews and 1 great-grand niece, Joel, and the early morning coffee group at the Conoco.
VISITATION: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, August 15, 2025, with Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m., all at Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home.
CELEBRATION OF LIFE SERVICE: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Fort Calhoun Presbyterian Church.
INURNMENT: Fort Calhoun Cemetery.
IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, Memorials are suggested to the Fort Atkinson Foundation, Fort Calhoun Fire and Rescue or the charity of your choice.
