Arlene Ann Hilgenkamp, age 84, of Arlington, died Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Pathfinder Place in Fremont.

Arlene was born February 2, 1941, in Arlington, Nebraska, to Virgil and Betty ‘Schlapfer’ Frye. She grew up in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School.

On August 14, 1959, she married Darrell Hilgenkamp and they began a life on the farm. Though being raised in town, she adapted quickly to farm life. She gardened and did lots of canning; she made wonderful homemade meals for her family and baked delicious pies, cookies, desserts etc. She volunteered for years for Habitat for Humanity painting. She also spent many summers at the Washington County Fair helping with the open class baked goods and canning department.

She loved traveling with her husband, especially cruising the Caribbean as they took 31 cruises together plus many more trips over the years with favorites being Hawaii and Alaska, as well as volunteering over the years for different jobs at the church.

She’s been described as a firecracker that would usually have a witty, clever comeback with whatever you threw at her. And she loved and adored all her grandkids and “greats.”

Arlene is survived by her husband Darrell, son Cornell (Tanna) Hilgenkamp of Arlington and daughter Sheila Remelius (Randy) of Fremont. Grandchildren: Cody (Lindsay) Moseman, Houston (Janyl) Moseman, Aleasha (Gavin Ireland) Dryden, Tyler Hilgenkamp, Eric (Tania) Remelius, Michael (Beth) Remelius, Jena (Todd) Camden-Stevens, Ryan (Jaime) Camden, and Emilie (Jeff) Warneking. She also has 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Visitation will be Monday, September 15, 2025, at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the family present 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 16, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church north of Arlington. Burial will follow in the St. Paul’s Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the church or Arlington Fire and Rescue
