Mary M. Rathbun, Ex-Fremonter, Dies

Services for Mrs. Mary McIntyre Rathbun, 47, of Beatrice, Nebraska, formerly of Fremont, Nebraska and whose grandfather settled at Fort Calhoun, Nebraska, will be at 11am Thursday in Christ Episcopal Church at Beatrice.

Mrs. Rathbun died Tuesday in a Beatrice hospital after a long illness. Burial will be at 3pm Thursday in Calhoun Cemetery at Fort Calhoun.

Mrs. Rathbun was born May 12, 1915 in Omaha, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Cook McIntyre. Her maternal grandfather was Lorenzo Crouse, who settled in Fort Calhoun in the 1860's and later became a Nebraska governor.

Mrs. Rathbun attended Brownell Hall in Omaha, National Cathedral School in Washington, D.C., and the University of Nebraska. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. She appeared in Community Playhouse productions in Omaha. She came to Beatrice in 1942. Mrs. Rathbun was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church and was active in its Altar Guild of which she had been treasurer. She served as vice president of the Beatrice Centennial in 1957.

The Griffiths-Fox Chapel at Beatrice is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include the widower, Dr. Sanford MacArthur Rathbun, a daughter, Mary, two sons, Kirk and John, all at home; a brother, L.C. McIntyre of Prescott, Arizona.
