Leah Mae (Lowe) Cameron was born to Bert and Lucille (Raver) Lowe on May 25, 1929, in Herman, Nebraska. She passed away on October 2, 2025, at Oakland Heights Assisted Living facility in Oakland, Nebraska.
Leah Mae attended school in Herman and in San Diego, California. She attended Dana College for a year before marrying William (Bill) Cameron on March 12, 1948.
They lived and farmed west of Herman until they moved to Tekamah in 1982. They were members of the Herman Federated Church until 1980, when they became members of First Baptist Church of Tekamah.
Leah Mae was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Herman for 71 years, serving as various officers, and was a district officer for several years. She helped start an extension club that is still meeting some today.
She wanted things organized and put in their place and made a place to put everything. She refinished cabinets, painted walls, drywalled, cut hair, made and repaired clothing, fed and cared for baby animals brought into her house, made Afghans, fashioned blankets for babies, gardened, mowed the lawn, cared for flowers, babysat, chauffeured family and friends, and always tried to do whatever was requested. She oversaw the remodeling of two houses on the farm and designed the house they built in Tekamah.
Bill and Leah Mae loved watching their children and grandchildren participate in sports of all kinds but especially baseball. They were able to take some vacations, but the trip that she was able to make to Israel was by far her favorite. She got to see where her savior lived, taught, and walked and the hill where he died to set us free.
Leah Mae loved the beauty of flowers. A beautiful yard adorned with flowers was a really high priority. She may have had the greenest thumb in the family.
Leah Mae made thousands of beautiful cards for every occasion, usually adorned with flowers.
Leah Mae made God the center of everything that she was involved with. She hosted and led weekly Bible studies in her home for more than 58 years. When her children were young, she led the Herman Federated Church Sunday School classes and programs. After moving to Tekamah, she furnished flowers for the church (you should see the rows of shelves of flowers in her basement). She led the committee for many of the events involving food at the church, from tasty luncheons with Karen Jackson's help to hundreds of funerals at the church.
Family and friends were really important to Leah Mae. Hosting holiday and family events in her home was a passion for her.
Her life really could be summarized by “It is wonderful to see you. Would you come to my home? I will feed you. Let’s sit down and visit. I will listen. I will love you. I will support you. I will help you if I can. You are important to me, and I want you to come back to my home again.”
Leah Mae is survived by her children, Terry (Pam) Cameron, Karen (Bruce) Carr, and Mack (Nancy) Cameron. She also called Keith Rasmussen her third son after he lived in her home during his high school years. Her grandchildren are Mike (Sarah) Cameron, Jeff (Sabina) Cameron, Scott (Kelley) Cameron, Mathew (Shandra) Carr, Daniel Carr, Leah Carr, and the Arizona grandchildren Kirsta (Ryan) Phelps, Serena (Doug) Peterson, Angelee (David) Holt, and Zephanie (Pete) Cassford. Her legacy includes 24 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Leah Mae was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill (1984); her brothers, Forrest (Kay) Lowe and Virgil (Kay) Lowe; and her niece, Renee (Carl) Kemp.
