A month after the death of Eliza, her cousins George Hetrick (25), Esther Hetrick (28) , and Perry Hetrick (17), died of measles within a day of each other. Possibly the same illness is what took Eliza. Her aunt Maria (their mother) died of measles in 1886. All are buried in Colby-Morley.

The remaining family eventually moved to Montana and stayed there for the remainder of their lives.
